Social Media Challenge
I am going to tell you right now that I love social media. For twelve years now I have had a young kid at home with me and let me tell you it can be isolating. All sorts of amazing things are happening all over the world every day and the only thing amazing happening in your life is how such a small human can make such a big mess yet win your heart over so completely. All sorts of intelligent conversations are happening yet you find yourself saying things like, “Me like padetti”. (Bonus points for anyone who guessing the word) Social media has been a great way for me to have those adult “interactions” and connect with the world so easily even while I was so absorbed in mommy survival mode.
But then at some point it starts taking over. Your occasional glimpse into the world beyond becomes a constant part of your life. Are you glancing at your phone first thing in the morning and last thing at night? Do you glance at it when you are in line at the grocery store? Are you looking at it while at your kids practices? It started as an escape from the mundane to connect with life but them turned into escaping life to be apart of the mundane.
How many marriages have turned luke warm because they no longer snuggle and talk as they go to sleep? How many friends have we missed making because we didn’t look up and engage with the other parents? How many strangers have we missed helping or smiling at because standing in line has become too boring? How many amazing ideas have we missed out on because we no longer let our minds wonder freely.
So starting today, I am taking a break! Now for me social media is part of my marketing, communicating with clients and part of both my photography and education business, so cutting it out completely wont be a benefit to my life. But for the next week I will be disconnected except for the times I have it scheduled on my daily schedule. So no more sneaking it in here and there. It’s time for me to disconnect with the virtual world and connect more to the world and people around me.
Stay tuned for my report next week to see how it went.
